Riding the waves with the Gazette

Philip Riesch, a Lewes resident and avid Gazette reader, traveled to California for the 73rd annual San O Surfing Club Contest at San Onofre State Beach, near Camp Pendleton. The competition took place at Dogpatch Beach, known for its striking view of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. Philip was joined by his friends from Dana Point, Calif., Jeff Erickson and his wife, Noe, who captured the moment. Jeff placed third in their age group after defeating Philip in their heat. A lifelong beachgoer, Philip appreciates exploring coastal cultures and bringing new traditions home. One of Philip’s favorite traditions is reading the Gazette with his toes in the sand.
