Town hall to focus on Medicaid and Social Security cuts June 12

June 4, 2025

Saving Medicaid and Social Security will be the topic at Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice’s town hall set for 5:30 p.m., Thursday June 12, at the CHEER Center, 20520 Sand Hill Road, Georgetown.

Invited speakers include experts on Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security, along with Delaware legislators.

In May, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill cutting federal spending on health care including Medicaid and Medicare. Millions of people could lose their health care including thousands of Delawareans. Some Delaware hospitals and clinics may have to reduce services or even close. Social Security staff and access is also being cut.

And since almost one fourth of Delawareans (236,000 people) receive Medicaid, this bill will hurt many people in the state and county.

Although the House passed this bill, the fate of many of the provisions in the bill is uncertain in the Senate. A vote on the Senate version of the bill is expected in July.
