New films opening June 6 at Cinema Art Theater

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Bad Shabbos” and “The Wedding Banquet,” starting Friday, June 6. 

In “Bad Shabbos,” David and his fiancée Meg gather for his family’s traditional Shabbat dinner on New York’s Upper West Side, and things spiral when an accidental death (or...murder?) derails the evening entirely. With Meg’s devoutly Catholic parents (David Paymer and Kyra Sedgwick) due any moment to meet David’s very Jewish family, soon Shabbat becomes a comedy of biblical proportions.

In “The Wedding Banquet,” Wai-Tung (Winston Chao) and his boyfriend (Mitchell Lichtenstein) live happily as a gay couple in New York City. Wai-Tung has not been open about his sexuality with his Taiwanese parents (Sihung Lung, Ah-Leh Gua), and decides to acquiesce to their wish for a traditional Chinese union by marrying Wei-Wei (May Chin), a struggling artist desperate for a green card. But the simple arrangement turns into a lavish debacle when Wai-Tung's parents plan an extravagant wedding banquet.
