Sussex Habitat build honors memory of Jon Lokken

June 18, 2025

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity hosted a build day in memory of Jon Lokken, a beloved friend, dedicated volunteer and longtime supporter of the Habitat mission.

Lokken’s connection to Sussex Habitat stretched across 16 years of dedicated service. He served as board treasurer and a member of the finance committee. Lokken participated in a global village build in Guatemala, attended numerous golf outings and fundraising events, and regularly lent a hand on local construction sites, often alongside his family and coworkers. Professionally, he was the respected founder and owner of Lokken Investment Group, established in 2008.

The memorial build brought together more than 30 individuals who knew Lokken personally and professionally. Friends, family, colleagues and clients of Lokken Investment Group gathered on the Habitat construction site to build in his honor and reflect on the impact he made in their lives and in the community.

The day began with heartfelt remarks from Sussex County Habitat CEO Kevin Gilmore, who worked closely with Lokken during his years of service to the organization. Gilmore was joined by Carrie Ruark, the current managing principal of Lokken Investment Group, who shared memories of his leadership and legacy.

“Jon believed deeply in the mission of Habitat,” said Gilmore. “He showed up with his time, his talents and his heart, and he brought others along with him. Today’s build is a reflection of the lives he touched and the lasting impact of his generosity and service.”

The Jon Lokken Memorial Build was not only a tribute to a dedicated community leader, but also a celebration of the values he championed: compassion, integrity and a commitment to making housing more accessible for all.
