1957 postcard surely grabs one’s attention
This postcard of a crying baby was available in many places around the country, as the blank area – a drying cloth diaper – allowed for an easy addition of a town’s name. The postcard was created by Tichnor Brothers Inc., which was a Boston-based graphic arts and printing company in operation from 1908 to 1987.
The baby, wearing a cloth diaper and green socks, sits in a puddle. The postcard is captioned, "Well - for cryin' out loud! When are you coming to Rehoboth Beach, Del. The change will do you good!" J. R. Middaugh of Lancaster, Pa., received this postcard from Betty and Bud Evans in 1957. The Evanses wrote that their family was enjoying their time in Rehoboth. They added that the breeze was cool and refreshing, and the water was cold.
