In one of the most exciting and intense games of the Little League postseason, the Milton 8-10 all-stars defeated a strong MOT squad 8-7 July 25 to take the 2025 state championship banner. They now head to Cranston, R.I., to battle for the east regional title Aug.1-9.
MOT put a run on the scoreboard in the first inning and held the lead until the third inning when Milton notched three runs. Wyatt Dean connected for a two-run single, and Jaxon Kulp pounded a double to score a run.
MOT didn't wait long to respond, garnering five runs in the bottom of the third to go ahead 6-3, but the never-give-up Milton squad clawed back to put up five runs in the top of the fifth.
Milton's Henry Hill went four innings on the bump, striking out seven batters, allowing seven runs (six earned) and walking four.
"I felt good pitching tonight," said Hill. "My defense did great behind me in the infield and outfield. We were a little off at the plate in the first inning, but then our bats came alive."
Bryce DeLacy came in from the bull pen in the bottom of the fifth and held the MOT team to just one run on four hits and a K to close out the save and give the District 3 champs a State Title.
"I'm feeling really good right now," said reliever Bryce DeLacy. "I'm proud of what my team has done and proud of what my coaches have involved with us. In the last inning, I had some nerves and excitement. I just had to bear down and throw strikes."
Milton outhit the District 1 champs 14-11.
Jaxon Kulp went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead Milton. Wyatt Dean went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two RBIs. DeLacy and Michael Sockriter each went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Brock Davis garnered two hits. Hill, Krew Johnson and Hudson Libby each collected a hit.
Christian Lochlyn led the MOT squad at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Noah McFarland, Aycen Diaz and Ethan Ertle each had two hits.
Both teams were excellent in the field, as neither committed a single error.
"These kids worked hard all season," said Milton manager Bob DeLacy. "They've battled. We preached one pitch at a time. They lived it tonight. They locked in one pitch at a time and put it together. MOT is a good team, a real good team. We played better tonight, and we've got a pretty good team too. We felt we were 0-0 going into this game, and now we're 1-0 and state champs."
Milton opened the tournament with a 5-1 win over MOT. MOT topped Pike Creek 5-0 to advance to the championship round. But MOT needed to beat Milton twice to claim the state title. They got the first part done with ease, routing Milton 14-1 July 24 to set up a winner-take-all game July 25. Milton settled down in the second game, earning the win and the championship.
Milton starts its regional run against New York at noon, Saturday, Aug. 2. Milton continues against New Jersey Monday, Aug. 4, then Washington, D.C,, Tuesday, Aug. 5.
