George Alfred Palmer III, veteran, loving husband, father
George Alfred Palmer III, 90, husband of Judith Baddeley Palmer, passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, in Rehoboth Beach. He lived a rich life. He was born May 19, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pa., son of G. Alfred Palmer Jr. and Maree Gray Palmer.
George was raised in Verona, Pa., with his sister, Aleen, and cousins, Marjorie, Marilyn, and Kier Ewing. He graduated from The Kiskiminetas Springs School in 1953 and Allegheny College in 1957 as a brother of Phi Gamma Delta. He married Judy Baddley in 1956.
George served in the U.S. Coast Guard in Cape May, N.J. In his career as a personnel director, he worked for PPG in New York City, the Joseph Horne Company, and LB Foster Company in Pittsburgh, Pa.
In retirement, George held many positions; he was an outplacement consultant, worked for Rehoboth Car Wash, served as Santa Claus, led the Sea Witch Parade, ran Elder Hostel trips, and Osher Walk & Talk for University of Delaware.
He was, at one time, an avid boater, a marathon runner, a sailor, a drum major, and a football player.
George is the father of Cynthia Palmer Szafraniec (Roland) and Jill Palmer (David Losco), and the loving grandfather of Ryan Palmer Szafraniec (Loren Genson), Andrew Palmer Szafraniec, Christina Parks Cullen (A. Barratt Cullen IV), Thomas Rockwell Parks and Julia Palmer Losco. He is the great-grandfather of Amelia Lise Genson Szafraniec, Armstrong Barratt Cullen V, Brynn Maree Genson Szafraniec and Palmer Maxwell Cullen. George is the uncle of Kathy Wombacher, Kristi Scharfarz, George Boltz, Karen Dolin, Karl Boltz, Mark Hines, Michele Hines Hamren, Kier Ewing, Kevin Ewing and Kirk Ewing.
Special thanks to granddaughter, Christina Parks Cullen, for years of end-of-life caregiving. George leaves this world a happier place for the joy he brought others. He was a devoted partner to his wife, Judy. He often left one feeling that they were the most special. This was, of course, true.
