For some unexpected and unexplainable reason, the Phillies have been completely inconsistent this past week. Previous to this mess, they played the second-place Seattle Mariners, and won all three games along with the next series against the Washington Nationals. And then, for some odd reason, they proceeded to lay an egg for the entire three-game series against the Mets in New York. They followed that with a 19-4 win over the Braves, which included four home runs from Kyle Schwarber.
This inconsistency is frustrating because the Phillies had a seven-game lead over the Mets on Monday and by Wednesday, it was down to four. Thankfully, the Mets lost Thursday, so the Phillies’ lead is back to five games.
With only one week until the regular NFL season starts, everyone is making their NFL predictions, and the Eagles seem to be the best team in the NFC conference according to all the commentators. This is going to add more pressure on the Eagles quest to repeat as Super Bowl champion, but that's a challenge I hope they take on with confidence. The Eagles have a fairly well-rounded roster. The only weak spots are defensive end depth and offensive line depth. We will see what happens.
The U.S. Open tennis tournament has begun. On both sides of the draw, it seems like the Americans are gaining momentum. More on that next week. On the men’s side, I don't know if they can break through for the championship because of the dominating big three of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic. It's more difficult now for me to know who has been playing well coming into the tournament because ESPN used to have the U.S. Open series tournaments leading up to the Open on TV. Now they don’t, so it’s more difficult for me to find the results of those smaller events to guess who is going to play well in the Open tournament.
I hope everyone enjoys their Labor Day weekend. Where did summer go?!
