Lewes BOA to meet Sept. 2
The Lewes Board of Adjustment will hold its regular meeting at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, at city hall.
The panel is set to consider four variance requests, including one that would allow for construction of a two-story detached structure at 310 W. Fourth St.

Sussex P&Z to meet Sept. 3
The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission will meet at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 3, in the County Administration Building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.
The developer of Riverwinds is seeking a conditional use in the GR general residential district to add two lots into the manufactured home community in Oak Orchard.
LIC Housing LLC is seeking a conditional use in the AR-1 agricultural-residential district to build an independent care facility, restaurant and fitness center on the west side of Kings Highway near Clay Road outside Lewes.
A public hearing will be held for a conditional-use request from Savini Companies to build an office for a general contracting and home construction business, service and professional offices, and storage on Shingle Point Road near Milton. See the full agenda at sussexcountyde.gov.
Architecture group cancels meeting
The Lewes Historic Preservation Architecture Review Commission has canceled its meeting that was set for Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Rollins Center.

Rehoboth animal committee to meet
The Rehoboth Beach Animal Issues Committee will meet at 9 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 4, at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. Earlier this year, after nearly two years of discussion, city commissioners voted in favor of reducing the number of advisory committees from five to two.
As part of that process, committees are officially wrapping up business. The agenda for the animal issues committee calls for the sunsetting of the committee at the conclusion of this meeting.

Rehoboth workshop slated for Sept. 8
Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a workshop at 9 a.m., Monday, Sept. 8, at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda includes discussions about the final design of a new children’s fishing pier at Lake Gerar and an ordinance addressing the proliferation of newsracks around town, and an update on the city’s new advisory committees.

Special Rehoboth meeting set Sept. 8
Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting immediately after the conclusion of their Sept. 8 workshop at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.
The agenda includes a discussion about the possibility of offering a right of first refusal for the lease of 11 Christian St. to Clear Space Theatre Company and consideration of authorizing the city manager to prepare such an agreement. The agenda also includes an executive session to discuss the content of documents excluded from the definition of public record.

Advance care webinar set Sept. 9
TidalHealth will hold a free advance care planning webinar at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9. Topics include the importance of individuals letting loved ones know their healthcare wishes in the event of an unexpected illness, including who they would like make decisions for their care if they are unable to speak for themselves. It is important for adults of all ages to plan for future medical needs now, because a serious accident or illness can happen at any age.

Saltwater Fly Anglers to meet Sept. 10
The Saltwater Fly Anglers of Delaware invites fly fishermen and women of all ages and skill levels to attend its meeting at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Rolling Meadows Clubhouse, Lewes. Acres’ organizational meeting Sept. 12
Henlopen Acres will hold its annual organizational meeting at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 12, at town hall, 104 Tidewaters. During the meeting, the winners of this year’s election – Lee Raesly and Alex Jacobs – will be sworn in as commissioners. Dewey to host fire company fundraiser Sept. 18
In support of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, Dewey Beer Co. will host a fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 18 at 2100 Coastal Highway, Dewey Beach.
Guests must show the flyer and inform servers they are dining in support of the fire company. Dewey Beer Co. will donate 20% of proceeds to help purchase protective gear for the fire company, which provides fire, rescue and emergency medical services to a full-time population of 30,000 people and a seasonal population of more than 300,000.

Elks Most Valuable Student scholarship entries due Nov. 12
The Elks National Foundation announced the start of the 2026 Elks Most Valuable Student scholarship contest.
The MVS scholarship is available to high school seniors or the equivalent who are United States citizens. High school graduates are not eligible to apply. The judging criteria are based on academics, leadership, service and financial need. Applicants do not need to be related to an Elks member; however, Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 in Lewes will be the local sponsor, reviewing and determining which applications to forward for consideration.
The application must be completed online and submitted by Wednesday, Nov. 12. The 500 national winners will be announced in April 2026.
