David J. Rementer Sr., proud veteran, DuPont retiree
David J. Rementer Sr., 84, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife Ruth and family. He was born June 2, 1941, at Beebe Hospital in Lewes to Chester and Beatrice Rementer. David graduated from Georgetown High School Class of 1959.
David proudly served eight years in the Delaware Army National Guard and was a member of Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company. He was also a dedicated member of the Jaycees, where he was especially known for his entertaining skits at their annual Hoedown fundraiser, which benefited many organizations.
In addition to civic involvement, David served as a Boy Scout leader. He also held the role of vice chairman and Sunday school teacher at Georgetown Wesleyan Church. For 15 years, David faithfully ministered to the residents of Harrison House Senior Living alongside his grandson, Matthew Parker. David would often hand out Lifesavers with a smile and say, “This Lifesaver may not save you, but Jesus will.”
Professionally, David worked at the DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford for 33 years, where he was affectionately called “Pard” by his coworkers. After retiring from DuPont, he worked for LabCorp for 15 years. Then, he worked another 16 years alongside his wife Ruth, cleaning the office of doctors Dustin and Eileen Davis at Georgetown Family Medicine.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth Rementer; his daughters, Dawn Elliott (husband John) and Pamela S. Parker (her late husband Bobby R. Parker Jr.), and his son, David J. Rementer, Jr., (wife Leslie); granddaughters, Meghan Elliott, Kelsey Rementer and Mackenzie Rementer; and his niece, Trudy Kruger.
A celebration of life will be held with visitation from noon to 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7, at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. A graveside service will be held immediately following at Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in David’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
