Austin Tyndall scored four goals and Seth Benjamin added two more in the Cape boys’ soccer team’s 7-0 win over Odessa Sept. 6 at Legends Stadium.
“I thought the game went well,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “We did start slow in terms of goal production, but really turned it on in the second half. Austin came through for us in a big way. A lot of our goal production will be coming from him and Seth Benjamin.”
Tyndall scored at the eight-minute mark of the first half on a pass from Benjamin. He continued the scoring binge with three in the second half off assists by Benjamin, Jack Hess and Hedgie Swier. Benjamin tallied two scores with assists from Colby Wheeler and Logan Cortijo. Brenner Short concluded the scoring at the 77-minute mark from Quin Eisenmann.
“Some of the ways we were able to minimize the success of Odessa was as a team,” said Tyndall. “We were able to move the ball, create opportunities as a team going down each flank, and move through the middle of the field. The service from Seth was impeccable; I was just the one that got on the end of them. Going forward, there’s a lot to look forward to. Hopefully we can keep scoring and moving the ball like that.”
Cape outshot the Ducks 26-5 and held a 5-1 advantage in corners.
Cape keeper Anton Schierenberg stopped four scoring attempts, while Jacob Panyko stopped one.
Odessa keepers Ian Waiblinger and Daniel Mattil teamed for 19 saves.
