Sussex Master Gardeners fall workshops start Oct. 14
Instructors from Sussex County Master Gardeners will offer the following workshops in person at the Carvel Center, 16483 County Seat Highway, Georgetown. Classes are free, except when noted. Preregistration is required at udel.edu/0013810.
Trash to Treasure - Composting at Home will meet at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 14. Linda Spellman and Patrick Spellman will discuss how to turn household waste into nutrient-rich compost to use in a backyard garden by doing home-scale composting.
Attracting Birds will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 28. Joyce Romans will examine some of the reasons behind the decline of birds in the environment and the basic needs of birds. She will discuss how to attract certain birds by creating a landscape using native trees and shrubs, bird feeders and bird houses.
Grow Gorgeous Houseplants, led by Penny Huth, is set for 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 13. She will discuss how to choose, maintain and enjoy houseplants in the home, office or other spaces.
Making a Wreath will meet at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 20. Heike Kuska will discuss collecting and preparing greens for wreath-making and then demonstrate how to wire greens to the form. Supplies provided include greens, wreath form, wire, natural decorations and bows. Attendees may bring their own bows and decoration if they want to create a particular look or color scheme. Participants should bring clippers and gloves. Class is limited to 20 participants; the fee is $25.

Master Gardeners are working volunteers supported by Delaware Cooperative Extension through the University of Delaware and Delaware State University Extension offices. Any attendees who have special needs to be accommodated should notify the office two weeks prior to the event.
