Celebrating dogs on the beach
October 1, 2025

Dewey Beach was full of wagging tails and smiles the morning of Sept. 13, as the town held the inaugural Dewey Dog Day on Van Dyke Avenue beach.

Nearly 100 people and dogs attended, estimated Town Manager Bill Zolper.

Attendees could browse Dewey Beach merchandise, purchase discounted lifetime dog licenses and enter a raffle to win prizes and gift cards from local businesses.

The celebration honored the town’s famously pet-friendly policy.

From the Monday after Labor Day to the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, dogs are allowed on the beach between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. From the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through the first Sunday after Labor Day, dogs are allowed on the beach before 9:30 a.m. and after 5:30 p.m.
