October 2, 2025

To offer guidance on critical concerns that seniors and their families face regarding care options, elder law, and downsizing and relocation, noted experts from three local organizations will present free seminars.

Starting the Conversation: Important Discussions for Seniors and their Families will meet at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7, at CHEER Coastal Leisure Center, 30637 Cedar Neck Road, Ocean View.

A second session will be offered at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at Georgetown Public Library, 123 W. Pine St., Georgetown.

Amy Feger and Karen Holstein from CarePatrol will discuss approaches to starting the conversation and understanding the care options available to seniors. A certified senior advisor, Feger is owner of CarePatrol of Delaware and Maryland Eastern Shore. A certified dementia practitioner, Holstein is a senior advisor with CarePatrol. Both have extensive experience advising seniors on independent living, assisted living, memory care and in-home care.

Attorney Deirdre McCartney will walk families through important legal issues such as advance healthcare directives, powers of attorney and wills. McCartney is a partner with Sergovic Carmean McCartney & Owens, P.A., in Georgetown where she specializes in the areas of real estate, estate planning and elder law.

Stacey Himler will discuss the issues of senior downsizing and relocation. She is a certified relocation transition specialist and owner of Caring Transitions of Southern Delaware who specializes in helping seniors declutter, downsize and resettle into smaller homes, apartments or long-term care communities throughout Sussex and Kent counties.

Both events are free and open to the public, and no registration is required.
