Dharma talk and meditation retreat set Oct. 17-18 in Lewes
The Insight Meditation Community of Lewes will welcome returning meditation teacher Luisa Montero for two hybrid events, a Dharma Talk Friday, Oct. 17, and a full-day silent meditation retreat, Saturday, Oct. 18.
The Dharma Talk will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 17, and focus on Buddhist teachings followed by discussion. The full-day retreat will include sitting and walking meditation, a Dharma Talk and discussion; it will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 18.
Both talks have the theme of “The Preciousness of Life Amid Its Challenges.”
The events will take place on a hybrid basis, being available both virtually via Zoom and in person at St. Peter’s community hall in Lewes. All are welcome to attend.
Luisa Montero has been practicing and teaching Insight Meditation for more than 35 years. She received training through the Spirit Rock Meditation Center and the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies. She has been affiliated with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington since its inception. She served as a mentor in Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach’s Mindfulness Meditation Teachers Certification Program, and currently teaches meditation classes, daylong events and local residential retreats.
Montero spent her professional career managing programs locally, nationally and internationally in the fields of community and youth development with a focus on Latin American and immigrant communities in the U.S. She has served on various government and nonprofit boards.
The suggested donation for Friday’s talk is $10 and $45 for the Saturday retreat. In-person participants are asked to bring a bag lunch/snacks. For those with limited income, 50% or any amount of the suggested donation offered is welcome. If budget does not allow for a donation, simply show up; no explanation is needed.
St. Peter's Episcopal Church community hall is located at 211 Mulberry St. in Lewes. Chairs are provided, but attendees may bring their favorite floor mediation cushions for the retreat.
