Cameron Bell
A stalwart basketball player running backcourt last year for Fred Thomas in its startup year, Cam went on to play travel basketball in the summertime. His basketball coach at Fred Thomas is also the football coach Haywood Burton, who recruited Cam to give football a try after convincing his mom it was a good idea. The straight-A student is a talented kid playing wide receiver. He has also returned a kick for a touchdown. Burton said: “Great kid who is well mannered, works hard and takes coaching. He is a team-first guy, and loves to celebrate the success of others and the team. He is also a great student in the classroom and is a good role model for students in the building. He is a high-character kid.” Fred Thomas is 3-0.
Parker Keeler
Parker, a junior straight outta Woodbridge, is a starter for the 9-0 unbeaten Newberry College Wolves and leads the team in points with 29. Parker has nine goals and 12 assists on the season. Parker has a pair of hat tricks on the season, having scored three goals against Belmont Abbey and three versus Wingate. She recorded two assists in each game for eight-point games. Parker was a first-team all-state field hockey player at Woodbridge. She was South Atlantic Freshman of the Year and a Synapse First-Team All-American. Parker is majoring in nursing.
Payton Keeler
Payton, a former Woodbridge player like her twin sister Parker, has started all eight games for the unbeaten 9-0 Newberry Wolves, having scored six goals to go with six assists on the season. Payton is fourth on the team in points with 16. Payton was a first-team all-state field hockey player at Woodbridge and third-team all-state in basketball and softball. She was also class valedictorian. Payton is majoring in physical education at Newberry College in South Carolina.
Chase Madden
A three-sport athlete out of Mariner Middle, Chase plays sports year-round. In the first two games of the season, both Mariner wins, the all-purpose skill position player recorded 10 touchdowns – seven receptions, a kickoff return, a punt return and an interception. Chase plays basketball and baseball for Mariner, and travel baseball with the Bagel Bombers. He is a member of the AVID program at school and aims to help more students see college as a realistic goal. He also enjoys fishing.
Emma Westbrook
A senior field hockey player at Newberry College in Newberry, S.C., the former Sussex Academy player has been named South Atlantic Offensive Player of the Week. The forward powered the Wolves to a pair of dominant victories, scoring five goals and adding a defensive save. She netted one goal in a 7-1 win at Wingate before erupting for four goals, including the game-winner, in a 6-1 victory at Converse. Westbrook was highly efficient, putting 10 of her 13 shots on target while averaging 2.5 goals and 5.0 points per game. The Wolves are 9-0 in Division II, including a 3-0 win at West Chester. She has 10 goals and 3 assists on the season. Emma is majoring in exercise science.
