Holly Lane and Shore Jazz to perform Oct. 19 at St. Peter’s in Lewes
The St. Cecilia Music Guild will host a special performance of authentic jazz by Holly Lane and Shore Jazz at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, at St. Peter’s Church, Second and Market streets, Lewes. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. Seating for the concert is first come, first served. There are no tickets required, and admission is free.
Following the concert, an art sale will be held in St. Peter’s Parish Hall featuring works by the late artist Michael Krausz, who left behind a remarkable collection of original pieces in his Lewes studio. Krausz was much more than an artist; he was a musician, storyteller, philosopher and historian, as well as a devoted supporter of St. Cecilia Music Guild. The proceeds from the one-day art sale will benefit the guild’s scholarship fund, continuing Krausz’s legacy of supporting the arts and the community he loved. Holly Lane and Shore Jazz refers to an ensemble of musicians comprising Holly Lane on vocals, Joe Holt on piano, John Ewart on sax and Mike McShane on drums. They are no strangers to the jazz scene both in Lewes and beyond.
Holly Lane has had a truly international career, including 15 years in Paris. Her repertoire ranges from American jazz standards to French show tunes. She joined Shore Jazz in 2001 and enjoys being a part of this musical ensemble. She started coming to Rehoboth Beach as a child with her family and has happily called it home since 1996.
Joe Holt has played piano all over the country and is known for his engaging improvisations and joy-filled, in-the-moment performances. Active in the Delaware and Eastern Shore music scene for more than 30 years, John Ewart plays both saxophone and clarinet, performing a variety of styles from blues to zydeco, traditional NOLA jazz, classic jazz standards and the jazz music of Django Reinhardt. Mike McShane is a native New Yorker who relocated to southern Delaware. He performs regularly with regional jazz combos such as Joe Baione, Libby York and Holly Lane, as well as at the annual True Blue Jazz Festival with Peggy Raley-Ward and Sherman Ward. Mike McShane is the glue that holds Shore Jazz together, and he brings the joy of music to each venue and performance.
