The Mariner Middle School volleyball team moved to 9-0 on the season with a 25-23, 25-20 win over host Beacon Oct. 22. With its first loss of the season, Beacon is now 7-1.
“I love the competitiveness between both teams,” said Beacon coach Steve Walker. “Our girls really enjoyed the game today and the level of competition. It was good for them to get that exposure. We are trying to get them ready for them to play for Cape. I’m proud of them.”
“It was a really even match,” said Beacon captain London Steigerwalt. “I can’t wait to play as Mariner’s teammates next year. All of us together are going to be awesome.”
“I’m so proud of my team,” said Mariner coach Matthew Blakeman. “My girls have worked really hard this year. This game is intense, but next year I wish them all the best as teammates.”
“I feel like we worked really well together. None of us are superheroes,” said Mariner’s Madeline Hill. “We had great communication.”
“We brought good energy today, and everyone was focused,” said Mariner’s Addison Mohacey. “Going forward, we are going to be great teammates next year.”
The Beacon Vikings will host Sussex Academy Middle Monday, Oct. 27, while the Mariner squad hosts Sussex Central.
