The Los Angeles Dodgers won back-to-back titles by winning Game 7 5-4. The Blue Jays should’ve won this game and their first championship since 1993. They had multiple chances to win and couldn’t cross the finish line in the ninth inning and beyond. They were up 4-3 and two outs away from the championship when Dodgers utility infielder Miguel Rojas hit a game-tying home run, his first against a right-handed pitcher the whole season. And then in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Blue Jays were one hit away from winning again, but the Dodgers catcher Will Smith pulled off a great force play at home to prevent the victory. In the 10th inning, Dodgers centerfielder Andy Pages saved the season with a great running catch in left-center field. And then finally, Smith hit a go-ahead home run in the 11th inning and the Dodgers closed out the Blue Jays.
One thing this World Series proves is how hard it is to predict the outcome. At the beginning of the series, the Dodgers were an overwhelming favorite to cruise to the championship, and the Blue Jays could have won right until the end. Regardless, this was a great World Series to follow right up to the end.
The Cowboys are like the Yankees of the NFL, except they never win. I’m getting tired of ESPN and the NFL Network paying so much attention to the Cowboys every day when they have a 3-5-1 record and haven’t made the NFC Championship game since 1995. The only good thing about this is that the Eagles get a little more attention because they’re in the same division with Dallas.
The Eagles will play the Green Bay Packers Monday night, so they have one extra day in their bye week. They have to be wary of the Packers because they just lost a very disappointing game against the Carolina Panthers at home. If the Eagles can win the next two games, they have a great chance to win their division by Thanksgiving. If that happens, they can focus on winning the No. 1 seed in the conference and getting a bye in the playoffs.
Congratulations to all Cape Henlopen High School fall sports teams for their successful seasons and good luck in the playoffs in their particular sports.
And last but not least, congratulations goes out to Cape grad Mason Fluharty for playing in the World Series this year. That is a big milestone for the high school and him as well.
