Cordrey Charities Holiday Party returns Dec. 5
The 16th annual Cordrey Charities Holiday Party will be held from 7 to 11 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5, at the Cordrey Center in Millsboro, continuing its mission to bring joy, warmth and hope to local families in need during the holiday season and throughout the year.
The center will be transformed into a festive wonderland, with the glass greenhouse ceiling adorned with poinsettias and holiday décor. Guests will enjoy an elegant evening of music, auctions, fine food and community celebration.
What began as a small holiday party at a private home in 2008 has grown into one of Sussex County’s most heartwarming community traditions. Friends and neighbors arrived with coats, clothing, toiletries, school supplies and gifts for struggling families. That first year, four families in Sussex County received a complete Christmas — food, clothing, gifts and the spirit of community.
“It started as a simple act of kindness, but it’s become something so much bigger,” said Casey Hershelman, event founder. “Each year, our community shows what it truly means to care for one another. Together, we’re not just giving gifts; we’re giving hope.”
That spark of generosity has become a thriving nonprofit tradition. Local businesses continue to play an essential role, donating auction items, sponsorships and services to ensure that every dollar raised directly supports Sussex County families in need. The event’s volunteer team, made up of teachers, professionals and community members, ensures that every gift, coat and dollar reaches those who need it most.
