Pack 95 names 2026 Pinewood Derby winners

Lots of cheering could be heard Jan. 11 when scouts, siblings and leaders of Cub Scout Pack 95 participated in the annual Pinewood Derby race at Wesley Church in Georgetown.

To start the program, John McCarty, cubmaster, led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Matt Skidmore and Jessica Simpson led the crowd in the wave, encouraging lots of scout spirit.

In all, 36 scouts brought in the miniature cars they had designed and built, weighed them in, registered them and placed them on the racetrack. 

Several siblings and adult leaders had cars ready to be weighed and registered. Creativity, math, engineering and fun went into all the car designs.

Timed heats were held for each den, then siblings and finally leaders. 

Special recognition certificates were presented to Tiger Scout Hayden Babcock for the most colorful car, Webelos Scout Trenton Rathfon for the most creative car, Wolf Scout Kyler Kendrick for the most patriotic car, Tiger Scout Owen Swanner for the most futuristic car, Webelos Scout Keller McCarty for the most aerodynamic car, Tiger Scout Benjamin Tyre for best design and Drake Skidmore for the best Scout theme. The Cubmaster’s Pick went to Bear Scout Jareth Mihalics.

First-, second- and third-place winners, by den, were: Lions James Caraway, Brycen Mooers and Ridge Barnes, Tigers Reid Goins, Keagan Clemons and Hayden Babcock, Wolves Myer Briddell, Justice Jackson and Colton Larrimore, Bears Luke Lewis, Jack Simpson and Jareth Mihalics, Webelos Keller McCarty, Colin Ezell and Trenton Rathfon, and Arrow of Light Scouts Brody Backman, Clay Beauchamp and Grady Dickerson.

Overall pack winners were Tiger Scout Reid Goins, first place; Tiger Scout Keagon Clemons, second place; and Bear Scout Luke Lewis, third place.

Winners in the sibling category were Thomas Caraway, Grant Dickerson and Alex Ezell, and in the adult category, Eric Simpson, Matt Goins and John McCarty.

Organizers thanked all who helped with setup, registration and pit crew duty.
