To mow or not to mow on Coastal Highway, that is the question. In reply to the Jan. 13 letter by Ryan Phifer, the answer is, it’s a matter of opinion and perhaps a good reason.
As an elderly driver who frequents this expanse of road, I find the tall grass in the median beautiful as it reflects the natural habitat. This stretch is along the state park area. At dusk and nighttime, the tall grass blocks the glare from oncoming vehicle lights. Perhaps it gives refuge to wildlife trying to cross the road. Foxes are intelligent and hide in the grass waiting for a safe moment to run across.
I personally hope that DelDOT and DNREC continue to maintain the median grass mowing only at the crossings.
