I was present in Sussex County Council chambers for the rezoning hearing along with 126 other people – maximum capacity. Most people were wearing very visible “Vote no for zoning change” badges. I really felt that maybe five other people in the room were for the new shopping center. With all the speakers and badge wearers, the five council members on the dais could definitely read the crowd. I felt if they voted for the new shopping center that will benefit all Sussex County residents, they might need the uniformed guards to accompany them back to their cars. I have seen with my own eyes how a small vocal minority can seemingly influence a five-member Sussex County Council!
