New Lewes water tower taking shape

$6.27 million project slated for fall finish
January 30, 2026

A new water tower that will soon dominate the Lewes skyline is starting to take shape.

Crews have been welding large sections together and installing other components.

The tower is located on the Jones Farm property between Kings Highway and Savannah Road, near Cape Henlopen High School.

Lewes Board of Public Works awarded a bid of $6.27 million to CB&I in 2024.

The tower will be topped with a 1-million-gallon storage tank, which will quadruple the city’s capacity.

The iconic silver water tower on Schley Avenue will remain in service.

A Cape Henlopen High School logo will be painted on one side, a Lewes BPW and City of Lewes crest on the other.

The new water tower is expected to be completed in September.
