Janet M. Scott, devoted teacher, community volunteer
Janet M. Scott, 92, passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, after a brief illness. Born Oct. 17, 1933, in Selbyville, to Raymond and Roberta Morris, Janet was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and cherished member of her community.
Janet attended school in her hometown of Selbyville before continuing her education at the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., and subsequently University of Delaware. She dedicated her life to education, teaching in Wilmington, where she inspired countless students with her passion for learning and commitment to their growth.
In addition to her teaching career, Janet devoted her time to various civic, church, and library activities in Selbyville, Salisbury, Md., and Bar Harbor, Maine, embodying the spirit of community service that enriched the lives of those around her. She was a member of Selbyville Community Club, Selbyville Public Library, and various capacities in Salem United Methodist Church. Her generosity, kindness, and unwavering support have left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William Conn Scott. She is survived by her three sons, Robert, Richard (Lisa) and Edward Scott; and her two grandsons, Wesley and Alexander Scott, and their mother Kathy; and step-grandchildren, Hayden, Cullen and Hadley Fulton. Each of them carries forward her legacy of love, compassion and dedication.
A celebration of Janet’s remarkable life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb.13, at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home, Selbyville. Family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the joy she brought into their lives an hour before the service.
In this time of mourning, we invite all who knew and loved Janet to remember her with a smile, as she would have wanted. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
