Event to highlight legal, healthcare resources for LGBTQ+ residents
In collaboration with the University of Delaware Partnership for Healthy Communities and Delaware Technical Community College, CAMP Rehoboth will host Empowered Futures: Legal and Healthcare Readiness Day from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, at the Delaware Tech Georgetown campus.
The event is dedicated to supporting Delaware’s LGBTQ+ residents in navigating key legal and healthcare decisions. The first session was held in Newark, and CAMP Rehoboth is eager to work with UD and Delaware Tech in bringing this event to southern Delaware.
More than 20 different resources and services are available including: healthcare proxy assistance, estate planning guidance, parentage and adoption support, resources for name/gender change and health and wellness issues, free legal counsel/assistance, free diabetes screening, and LGBTQ+ Community Resource tables.
“The heart of the event is empowerment through preparation. LGBTQ+-affirming services allow people to protect themselves, their families and their wishes. The event is about giving people agency over their futures, not waiting for a crisis,” said Kate Culhane-Suluai, Partnership for Healthy Communities program manager.
