Pongratz nominated for Milton council

Higgs, Edler to take oath at April 6 meeting
April 3, 2026

Milton Town Council is set to add two new members at its Monday, April 6 organizational meeting.

The first to be sworn in will be Perry Higgs, who will assume the seat formerly occupied by Councilwoman Randi Meredith, who declined to run for another term. Higgs and incumbent Councilman Scotty Edler ran unopposed in this year’s municipal election. Edler will begin his second term in office.

After that, council will debate the nomination of Alan Pongratz to assume the seat that was occupied by Councilman Tom Arkinson, who resigned his seat in March. If approved by council, Pongratz would serve the remaining two years on Arkinson’s term, which expires in 2028.

Pongratz has lived in Cannery Village for the past 13 years with his wife Jennifer. He formerly served as the water and sewer commissioner for the Town of Greenwood for 10 years, and he works for the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control as an environmental control supervisor. Pongratz serves with the Cannery Village Homeowners Association and is on the board of Milton Historical Society.

Pongratz ran for Milton council in 2025, finishing third behind new Councilman Robert Gray and the man he will be replacing, Arkinson.

Mayor John Collier said, "Alan Pongratz has been a resident of Milton for more than a decade. He previously resided in Greenwood, where he served a number of years on the Greenwood Town Council. While Greenwood is certainly not Milton, Alan possesses the knowledge, skills and ability to serve the citizens of Milton well."

Milton council will meet at 6 p.m., April 6, at Milton library.
