The Cape softball team could only muster a four-hit performance in a 10-0 loss to a strong Sussex Central team April 16 in Georgetown.
Riley Windish, Emma Reynolds, Madison Lubiniecki and Madilynne O’Malley each had a hit in the Vikings’ loss.
Sara Craig started in the circle, going two innings and giving up five runs on six hits. Riley Windish came in from the bullpen and went three innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and striking out one batter.
The Golden Knights garnered 14 hits in the game.
“It was a little frustrating,” said Cape coach Mike Tkach. “As a team, we didn’t perform to the best of our abilities. Central is one of the top teams in the state, so you have to bring your A game. We didn’t hit the ball very well, we made some base-running mistakes and had a few errors. Now with that said, those are all things that can be corrected and worked on, which we will and we’ll bounce back. It starts next week against Saint Mark’s on Tuesday, which will also be our Morgan’s Message game.”
Timora Hall went the distance in the circle for Central, throwing six innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven batters.
Sophomore Emma Jackson led the Knights, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs.
The Vikings hosts Saint Mark’s Tuesday, April 21, while the Knights travel to Mardela to face the Warriors.
