Cape tennis falls to Auks

April 20, 2026

The Cape boys’ and girls’ tennis squads each faced undefeated Archmere April 16. When the last out ball was called, both the Vikings teams had dropped their matches 5-0 to the visiting Auks.

“It was definitely the most challenging match we have had this season, as Archmere has some excellent players,” said girls’ coach Maryann Tietbohl. “I was proud of the way the girls fought for every point and adjusted their play in the second sets to be more competitive and earn more points. The singles players moved around the court well, and the doubles teams did a nice job communicating and working together.”

Cape’s three girls’ singles players were Madison Deas, Kennedy Spath and Ida Molzahn. Doubles duos were Riti Patel and Courtney Kosc, and Madeleine Ruffcorn and Anika Sehgal.

Cape’s three boys’ singles players were Nate Hoang, Sullivan Naden and Caidan Juliano. Teaming up for doubles were Michael Gordon and Jackson Hess, and DeAngelo Jackson and Ace Crandall.

“Archmere has a great tennis tradition and is always a very tough match,” said Cape boys’ coach Mike Roy. “I was happy to see all of our guys hang tough and take some hard-fought games off them.”

The Cape boys play host to Caesar Rodney Tuesday, April 21, while the girls face the Riders in Camden.
