Raymond Weitzel, veteran, devoted to family
Raymond “Jeff” Weitzel, 93, of Lewes, formerly of Ephrata, Pa., passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Excelcare in Lewes.
Born March 3, 1933, in Lititz, Pa., Jeff was the son of the late Harry M. Weitzel and Elsie M. (Crouse) Weitzel. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army at the close of the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, an experience he carried with quiet pride throughout his life.
Jeff devoted many years of his career to New Holland in Pennsylvania before relocating to Delaware 27 years ago. Even in retirement, his strong work ethic and friendly nature kept him active, as he worked part-time with Lowe’s and later with Quillen’s Hardware in Rehoboth Beach, where he enjoyed connecting with customers and colleagues alike.
Above all, Jeff was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 72 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Eileen (Adams) Weitzel, a partnership marked by love, dedication and enduring companionship.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, David Michael Weitzel and Douglas Mark Weitzel.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Eileen; his son, Dale Weitzel; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service to celebrate Jeff’s life will be held at 1 p.., Saturday, June 20, at Groome Church, 601 Savannah Road, Lewes.
