Silverstock Builders of Bethany achieves another green first
The Homebuilders Association of Delaware presented the Builder of the Year Award to Bob Thornton, owner of Silverstock Builders from Bethany Beach Nov. 20.
Thornton was also sworn in as the Sussex County vice president on the Homebuilders Association of Delaware executive board. He has served on the board of directors for the last two years.
Thornton has been a guest speaker at the International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas on the topic of green building and will be a speaker and part of a panel discussion at the IBS in January in Orlando.
“I will continue to work hard in Dover and Washington to make sure our legislators understand how important housing is to the economy and jobs,” said Thornton. “I will make sure that they understand what impacts the laws they pass have on our industry, as well as the current regulatory climate and how it relates to private-sector growth and capital formation.”
The Delaware Green for Green program is presented by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, in partnership with Homebuilders Association of Delaware, with stimulus funds administered by the Delaware Sustainable Energy Utility. Builders must apply on behalf of their clients. The funds are paid at settlement in a check payable to the home buyer. These funds are intended to help the new home buyer offset the cost of the energy efficiency upgrades on their newly built home.
This check may be signed over at settlement and used toward the cash needed to close, depending upon the conditions of the individual mortgage approval.
Silverstock firsts
The first State of Delaware Green for Green Rebate Check was recently funded to the lucky home buyers who settled on a National Green Building Standard silver-certified home built by Silverstock Builders in the green community of Silver Woods. Six new Silver Woods customers will be receiving this rebate.
Silverstock Homes was recognized for having the first National Association of Home Builders certified green home in Delaware and the first home in the nation to receive gold certification from the national association’s national green building program.
