“Tanger is proud to join with our retail partners and our customers in a team effort to put an end to this terrible disease of breast cancer,” said Steven B. Tanger, president and CEO of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc. “Our goal is to help raise and donate the funds necessary for breast cancer research so that a cure and prevention can be found.”

Money raised by the pink card sales is donated locally through the Stanley K. Tanger Breast Cancer Fund to nearly 20 different breast cancer organizations across the country. Since 1994, Tanger Outlet Centers has contributed more than $7.5 million to the cause.

Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. More than 207,000 women will hear the words “You have breast cancer” this year. However, there are steps people can take to reduce their risk. The American Cancer Society recommends all women age 40 and older get a mammogram and clinical breast exam from their healthcare professionals every year. Other actions people can take to reduce their risk include maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active on a regular basis, and limiting alcohol intake: no more than one drink per day for women or two drinks per day for men.
