Make-A-Wish Triathlon looking for volunteers and participants

Volunteers are needed Friday, Sept. 24, and Saturday, Sept. 25, for the 27th Annual Make-A-Wish Triathlon at Sea Colony in Bethany Beach.

The event takes place at Sea Colony Resort and benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic.

Shifts run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 4 to 10 p.m., Friday and from 5 a.m. to event finish (about 2 p.m.) Saturday. Duties include setting up the race course, stuffing gift bags, athlete check-in, manning water stations and monitoring the race course. V

The triathlon will take place Sept. 25. Registration is now open for the event, which can host up to 1,000 athletes.

This 1.5-kilometer ocean swim, 41-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer race will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic. Athletes may participate as individuals or a as members of a relay team.

“Last year was a great success, with more than 700 triathletes,” said Race Director Rob Vigorito. “The Olympic-distance course will be a USAT-sanctioned race and the Delaware State Qualifier. This is sure to be a great race for a great cause.”
