Georgetown house tour set for Dec. 12

December 10, 2009

The Georgetown Historical Society will host its annual Holiday Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12. Tickets are on sale at the Marvel Carriage Museum Gift Shop. This year the tour hosts a great combination of the old and the new.

This year’s historic features are the Old Courthouse of 1791, the Sand Hill Church dedicated in November 1859, the 1850 Federal-style home of Gordon and Sandy Mariner, the 1800s Victorian home of Howard and Kelly Abbott, and the 1841 Clayville Farm owned by Camile Stanley.

Among the newer features this year are the homes of Pat Redeman and Walter and Maureen Dzur, both in the Cinderberry development, and the new home of Fred and Pat Rust on Parker Road. Also new to this year’s tour are the homes of W.T and Jessica Collins on Louise Street, and Stanley and Ruth Briggs King at Par Court.

The newest exhibit from the Marvel Museum is also part of the tour. The exhibit is the culmination of Georgetown Historical Society President Jim Bowden’s 40-year quest of collecting telephones and telephone memorabilia, totaling some 250 to 300 phones. There will also be a Santa’s Gift Shop at the Marvel Museum with many local gift items. Tickets are $10 and may be picked up at the Marvel Carriage Museum, 510 South Bedford St., Georgetown.
