Cape Theatre presents 'The Miracle Worker'

The Cape Henlopen High School Theatre academy will present "The Miracle Worker" to kick off its 2012-2013 season.

The William Gibson play tells the true story of Helen Keller, who was born blind and deaf, and her tutor, Anne Sullivan, who taught her when no one else could.

“This production is the most physically and emotionally challenging production we have performed, by far,” says Cape Henlopen High School Theatre Director Martha Pfeiffer. “I am always so proud of my students, and I never cease to be amazed at the talent and determination that motivates my actors to go beyond their personal limits to deliver unparalleled performances.”

Last year, Pfeiffer directed students in "The Elephant Man" and "CATS." Both productions earned high praise from as far north as Philadelphia, she said. This spring, students will perform "A Chorus Line," and they are preparing audition pieces for it.

"Knowing Poe" was canceled Oct. 29 due to superstorm Sandy and will be rescheduled in January, Pfeiffer said.

"The Miracle Worker" opens 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the high school theater. Following performances will be held 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18. Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens and $10 for adults. Tickets will be available at the door.
