Cape wrestlers defeat Milford 36-18

February 22, 2009
The Cape wrestling team put together a solid effort Friday, Feb. 13, to defeat Milford 36-18 and finish the regular dual-meet season with a respectable 10-5 record.

Behind a dramatic pin by Jason Kollock (171), Milford upset favored Hodgson Tuesday, Feb. 17, to win the Division II state wrestling title and back up the school’s first state football championship.

The numerical oddity in all of this is that Cape beat Milford in both football and wrestling - but there are no parades and no rings.

“We had a good season, losing to the big three - CR, Smyrna and Sussex Central - and also came up short against Seaford and Sussex Tech. Both of those teams are having their best seasons ever,” said Cape coach Chris Mattioni. “I’m hoping our kids can do well in the Henlopen Conference meet.”
