Conch Island opens liquor store

Craft beers a specialty
May 16, 2013

Conch Island Liquors in Rehoboth Beach says the premise is simple: Give your customers what they’ve asked for.

Owner Bryan Derrickson said, “With Conch Island, the No.1 question we were asked is, ‘Where can I get a six-pack?’”

So to answer that question, Derrickson took unused space next to Conch Island Key West Bar at 211 Rehoboth Ave. and converted it to a liquor store. He said the store gives Conch Island customers what they want, while also taking advantage of underused space.

Conch Island Liquors features 35 craft beers, most from local brands such as Dogfish Head, Evolution and 16 Mile, as well as brews from Abita, Heavy Seas and Troegs. Derrickson said the craft beer selection would change with the seasons – light, crisp beers in the spring and summer; heavier, stout-type beers in the winter. Derrickson said that should appeal to craft beer enthusiasts.

“They know what they like, and they’re willing to try something new,” he said.

Derrickson said there are more than 140 different wines and 300 to 400 types of spirits. Keeping the Conch Island name was a way to keep it simple for visitors who are familiar with the restaurant but not the liquor store, he said.

Conch Island Liquors is open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
