Curtis V. Davis Sr., electrical company owner

Curtis Valentino Davis Sr., owner of C. V. Davis Electric Co. Inc. of Lincoln, departed this life at home in his wife’s arms and surrounded by his loving family Friday, May 10, 2013.

Curtis was born Feb. 14, 1953, in Milford, to the late Hershel and Virginia Davis. On March 28, 1975, Curtis married his elementary and high school sweetheart Sally Christie (Savage) and to this union they were blessed with two children.  He was a 1971 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School. He also attended Sussex Vo-Tech in Georgetown, where becoming an electrician became his passion.

After working for several local companies including Local 313, he decided to branch out on his own and became owner and operator of C.V. Davis Electric Co. Inc. in April 1989.  Under his leadership the firm wired numerous homes and businesses throughout the state of Delaware. He later joined the Sussex County Electrical Contractors Association in Sussex County. There he became the first African-American president of the association, holding this office for several years. He used his business to encourage many young men and women to go into the electrical field, or to better themselves by furthering their education. He was an intelligent, hardworking, caring, kind, quiet, humorous, inspiring and loving person, who left a legacy of what a good and honest man should be.

He was a member and deacon of Faith Hope & Love Christian Fellowship in Milford. Curtis was very busy in the church, from working the soundboard to fixing any electrical problems, to working with the men and young men of the church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Curtis Valentino Davis Jr.; one sister, Donelda Davis; and two brothers, Charles R. Davis and Matthew A. Harmon. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 38 years, Sally Davis of Slaughter Neck; daughter Kesha of Slaughter Neck; stepmother Wilhelmina Davis of Ellendale; three sisters, Hattie R. Harris (Luke), Theresa Willis (Howard), of Milton, both of whom he raised; and Julia Davis of Ellendale; an uncle, William White of Norfolk, Va.; one grandson, KeMar Curtis Davis of Slaughter Neck; two nephews whom he was very instrumental in raising, Curtis Savage of Millsboro and Machi Savage of Germany; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be noon, Saturday, May 18, at Wesley Chapel U.M. Church, Slaughter Neck, where friends may visit between 10 a.m. and noon. Interment will be at Old Hickory Cemetery, Slaughter Neck.
