Genevieve A. Steiger, UM athletic dept. retiree

Genevieve A. Steiger, 80 of Dagsboro, formerly of Silver Spring, Md., passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md. She was born in Lilly, Pa., March 30, 1933, daughter of the late Andrew and Rose (Zentack) Nazit.

Mrs. Steiger enjoyed being a homemaker for many years and later in life started a 20-year career working for the University of Maryland Athletic Department. Mrs. Steiger enjoyed reading, crocheting and square dancing. She was a parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, and St. Camillus Church in Silver Spring, Md. Mrs. Steiger was a loving and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed dearly.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Steiger was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Nazit and her sister Dorothy Nazit. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Harold A. Steiger; her three sons: Gregory Steiger and his wife Amy Lueders of Reno, Nev., Kevin Steiger of Silver Spring, and Brian Steiger of Sykesville, Md.; her two daughters: Diane Steiger of Dagsboro and Susan Steiger of Atlanta, Ga.; her sister, Joann Reinohl and her husband David of Dagsboro; and her seven grandchildren: Julia Steiger, Colleen Navia and her husband Alex, Joseph Steiger, Charles Steiger, Jeffrey Steiger, Matthew Steiger, and Nathan Steiger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m., at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, where friends may visit one hour prior to Mass. Interment will follow services at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Ocean View.
