Sussex Tech students to get dental care

February 13, 2014

Sussex Technical High School opened its Sussex Tech Dental Clinic during Career & Technical Education Month in February. The dental clinic will provide examinations, x-rays, dental cleanings, and fillings to Sussex Tech students. A licensed volunteer dentist will donate time and services to the clinic. There is no charge for students receiving these services in the dental clinic.

The dental clinic is a teaching facility for dental services and technologies students. Students in this career-technical area will assist during procedures and take x-rays as they continue hands-on dental assistant training. Other dental students will occasionally view the procedures for educational reasons to continue their learning of dental assistant knowledge and skills as well as all aspects of dentistry. The program instructor, a dental hygienist, will also give dental care as needed.

As many students as possible will be served during the limited dental clinic hours. Services are only available from noon to 2 p.m. Fridays, and appointments are necessary. In order for Sussex Tech students to have an opportunity for an appointment, a medical history, patient registration form, and permission form must be completed and returned to the school.

For more information, contact the Sussex Tech nurses’ office at 302-856-0961 or the school’s Wellness Center at 302-856-4360.
