George A. Panarello Jr., retired pharmacist

February 20, 2014

George A. "Chubby" Panarello Jr. died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at home in Concord Township, Pa., where he had lived for 20 years. Mr. Panarello was born in Chester, Pa., the son of the late George and Alice nee Nacrelli Panarello.

He was a member of St. Cornelius Church in Chadds Ford, Pa. Known to all as Chubby, he attended Upper Chichester High School where he discovered one of the loves of his life, football. His prowess on the gridiron subsequently earned him admission to the Delco Athletic Hall of Fame. Football took Chubby to the University of Delaware, but he ultimately chose to follow in in his father's footsteps and pursue a career in pharmacy.

He graduated from The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in1956 and for the next 40 years was the proprietor of Boothwyn Pharmacy. From behind the counter he cared for the residents of Boothwyn with good medicine and good advice. He knew each of them by name and cared deeply about his customers, his employees and his community. An avid golfer, Chubby spent many hours out on the course in the company of close friends, and almost as many hours in the club house where he played a mean game of Gin. In mid-life Chubby discovered skiing and the champagne powder of Colorado. Many happy and hilarious memories were made on the slopes with the "Rockykommeraten"ski group.

Chubby loved fishing among the Florida mangroves, on the lakes of the U.S. and Canada, and in the waters off Delaware. He was a passionate waterfowl hunter and loved the Maryland countryside. His Brookwood Kennel produced field champion beagles from which no rabbit was safe. Most of all, Chubby loved his family and his friends, all of whom already miss his inimitable style. Rest in peace Chubbs.

He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Simpkins; son George A. Panarell III (Danielle) of Rehoboth Beach; daughters Maryalice St.Clair (David) of Wilmington and Fran Panarello of Wilmington; and his brother Chris Panarello D.D.S. of Concordville, Pa.

His funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Feb. 19, St. Cornelius Church 160 Ridge Rd. Chadds Ford. Interment was in Lawn Croft Cemetery Lower Chichester. Contributions to the Lewy Body Association of America, 912 Killian Hill Rd. S.W. Liburn, GA 30047.
