Wilma D. Valihura, a true believer

March 11, 2014

Wilma D. Valihura, 84, of Lewes, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at her home in Lewes. She was born Jan. 7, 1930, in Cynthiana, Ky., the daughter of the late Arthur and Annie Cornet (Townsend) Fraley.

After the passing of her beloved husband, Robert J. Valihura Sr. in 2007, Wilma Valihura relocated from Indianapolis, Ind. to Lewes to be closer to her sons, Robert and Steven Valihura. She was a woman of strong Christian faith. She was a believer. She had tremendous compassion and conviction, and touched everyone she met with her grace and serenity.

Her greatest joy was her family and her constant loving companions, Casey Paul and Charlie Bob, her two beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Her home was her sanctuary, and was a welcome refuge for the myriad of song birds and colorful butterflies that were frequent guests to her yard, and to the abundant plants, flowers and fruit trees which flourished under her attention and care. An avid reader and follower of current events, Wilma was especially proud of her Southern cooking and hospitality, always having something available for comfort and kin.

She is survived by her two sons: Robert John Valihura Jr., Esq. and his fiancé Dr. Debra Pace of Wilmington, and Steven Paul Valihura and his wife Peggy of Birdsboro, Pa.; a brother, Clyde Leonard “Rusty” Fraley; two sisters, Dollie Crawford and Wanda Colville; two sisters-in-law: Barbara DeMille and her husband Ronald, and Veronica Persson and her beloved Gordon McLachlan; a brother-in-law, Dr. Paul Valihura and his wife Izora; her many grandchildren including, Jessica and James Valihura; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

Her passing reunites her with her devoted husband of 36 years, Robert J. Valihura Sr., her parents and her two sons from a prior marriage, Thomas and John Owsley.

All services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

Memorial contributions may be made in Wilma Valihura's memory to Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes, DE 19958.
