Duffy and Ott top Cape athletes, Judge takes Kennedy award

Tiara Duffy and Thomas Ott of the Cape Henlopen class of 2014 have been voted as the top athletes of the year, while Kat Judge was honored with the prestigious Kevin Kennedy Award.

Duffy was 2013 Delaware Player of the Year in field hockey and an all-star softball player. She will be headed to the University of South Carolina for the fall semester and will play on the Gamecocks' softball team.

Ott was all-conference on the football and lacrosse teams as well as a two-time state champion on the wrestling team. He will be headed to the Naval Academy Prep School in the fall and will wrestle for mascot Bill the Goat.

Judge is a seven-time state champion in field hockey and lacrosse. The Kevin Kennedy Award is given to the student with the ability to perform with sportsmanship and kindness, show cooperation with the coach and earn peer respect. Judge will be playing lacrosse for the Winthrop University Eagles of the Big South Conference.

All awards are voted on by the Cape Henlopen coaches.

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
