Elizabeth Anne 'Betty' Stevens, library volunteer
Elizabeth Anne (Betty) Stevens, 87, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at Brandywine Senior Living in Rehoboth Beach. One of two children, she was born in Baltimore, daughter of the late J. Luther and Lillian Perkins. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Leland B. Stevens; a brother, H. Arnold Perkins; and two sons, R. Scott Lawrence and Craig B. Stevens.
She graduated from Eastern High School in Baltimore in 1944 and spent much of her working career as a medical secretary. After moving to Rehoboth Beach, she became a regular long-time volunteer at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library where she especially enjoyed meeting all of the foreign students who worked in town each summer. She served for several years on the library board, and together with friend and fellow board member Dee Bradley commissioned the mural on the library wall.
Betty loved living at the beach and was known as the "cat lady" around town for her "Purr" license plate and love of anything cat related. Her signature is hidden in the reeds on the mural in the library for those who look closely!
She is survived by her daughter, Paula A. Sparks and husband David of Millersville, Md.; and two grandsons, Shawn D. Sparks and wife Jenna of Baltimore, and Craig L. Sparks of Odenton, Md.
All services will be private.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.
