Talking A Good Game

February 6, 2015

Last week's Super Bowl was very exciting to watch from start to finish. The ending to the game was very shocking. New England had control of the game for most of the first half. The Seahawks had trouble doing much of anything on offense until the last 30 seconds of the first half. They decided to take a huge risk going for a touchdown with only six seconds remaining instead of settling for a field goal. This time the risk paid off and at the half, the score was tied 14 all. This risky behavior would ultimately cost the Seahawks at the end of the game. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, the eventual MVP, was consistent throughout the game except for two pass interceptions that I'm sure he would like to have back. Brady actually set a record of 36 passes completed in a Super Bowl, by using short passes to control the Seahawks defense.

In the beginning of the second half, the Seahawks took a 24-14 lead and you would have thought it would be enough to win the game, but the Patriots never gave up hope. Starting at the end of the third quarter the Seahawks offense was unable to sustain any type of drive to keep the ball away from the Patriots. The Patriots scored two fourth quarter touchdowns and took the lead 28-24 with just over 2 minutes left in the game. Then the Seahawks proceeded to drive down the field. and because of an acrobatic catch by Jermaine Kearse, they had a first and goal at the 5 yard line. Inexplicably, on second down from the one yard line, they decided to go away from using their best player, running back Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch to run it in and win the game. They will be thinking about that decision for a very long time! As a result of a great defensive play, rookie reserve cornerback Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson's one yard pass which would have been the winning score! What an awesome end to a really well played game!

One more  comment. I usually don't care about what the announcers decide to talk about during the game, but I thought Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth and Michele Tafoya talked about the Patriots deflated football controversy way too much instead of focusing on just a great football game itself. Let the investigative process take its course, and if there is anything there, they will get punished soon enough.
