Robert 'Bob/PopPop' Hannan, gifted athlete
Robert James "Bob/PopPop" Hannan, 76, of Lewes, passed away peacefully with close family by his side Monday, March 16, 2015, in Philadelphia, Pa. He was born Sept. 15, 1938, son of the late William and Elizabeth (Conway) Hannan.
Bob was a gifted athlete and played point guard for North Catholic High School from 1952-56. During his later years, he loved to talk about his several opportunities to scrimmage with Wilt Chamberlain.
Bob and Judy met in Philadelphia, married in 1959, and settled in Marlton, N.J. Bob had a 26-year career with John Wanamaker Department Stores in Philadelphia and Moorestown, N.J. From 1987 to 1995 Bob and Judy owned and operated Hannan's Deli in Ocean City, N.J. They retired to Lewes in 2009.
Bob was a lifelong fan of Philadelphia sport teams. He volunteered for many years with the Evesham Township, N.J. Jaycees, serving one term as president. Bob and Judy enjoyed the beach, traveling, entertaining and spending time with friends and family in their pool, and spoiling their four grandsons.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy (née Gresch); a daughter, Judy Weischedel (Mark) of Vienna, Va.; a son, Robert Hannan Jr. (Marianne) of New London Township, Pa.; four grandsons: Stephen, Robert III, Thomas and Alexander; and many extended family.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, and the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania for their skilled and compassionate care.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 21 at 3 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
