UUSD goes into the woods for its annual auction April 18
The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware in Lewes is hosting its annual auction starting at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 18. This year’s theme, UUSD Goes Into the Woods, was inspired by the award-winning play and movie “Into The Woods” and captures both the adventure and fun of past events and the congregation's move to its new home this coming June on a beautiful, wooded property on Route 9.
A warm invitation to attend is extended to the larger community that UUSD serves. Dress up as a favorite Grimm character to be part of a costume contest with a $50 cash prize.
There will be silent and live auctions with a variety of unique and diverse must-have items, including artwork, handcrafted items, vacation getaways, jewelry, glassware, scrumptious dinners and so much more. A 50/50 raffle, wine and light refreshments round out a memorable evening. A small entrance donation of $5 is requested.
Auction coordinator Barbara Barnette said, “UUSD’s annual auction is our signature fundraising event. We are very appreciative of the generosity of area businesses, friends and members who donate goods and services to make our auction a success.”
Proceeds from the auction will support the mission of the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware to nurture spiritual growth, embrace diversity, work for justice and strive for a loving world. UUSD has been an active member of the community for nearly 20 years and supports the local community in many ways, such as helping homeless Cape District families, assistance to Casa San Francisco and advocating for social and environmental justice issues.
UUSD minister the Rev. D. Michael Smith said, “This is a special year for our auction. This summer UUSD will move into our new church home now under construction on Route 9 near Lewes. These auction proceeds will help the congregation carry out its mission in the local community and beyond."
The auction will be held at UUSD, 33739 Marsh Road, Lewes. For directions and information about UUSD, go to www.uussd.org. For more information, contact Barbara Barnette at 443-944-7379 or windstarbarb@yahoo.com.
