Two very busy weeks!
These two weeks are among my favorites on the entire sports calendar. The NCAA final four starts on Saturday. Opening day for baseball is on Monday for most teams, and Masters week starts on Monday as well.
In college basketball, the Kentucky Wildcats play the Wisconsin Badgers in one game and Michigan State faces Duke in the other one. Notre Dame's performance against Kentucky in the elite eight proves that Kentucky is not unbeatable. I will be rooting for Wisconsin to win the championship, but in the end, I think that Kentucky will go undefeated.
Unfortunately as a Phillies fan, I do not think I will be watching important baseball into October this year. But, never say never. Case in point, in 1992 the Phillies finished last in the division (as they did in 2014), and then in 1993 they proceeded to make it to the World Series.
More realistically, the Los Angeles Dodgers have a great chance to make the playoffs from the National League West, considering they have one of the best pitchers in baseball in Clayton Kershaw. If they make the playoffs, I will be rooting for them to win the World Series, since they have Jimmy Rollins on their team now.
There are three great stories going into the Masters Golf tournament. First is whether Tiger Woods decides to play. Second is if Bubba Watson can defend his title. And third is that Rory McElroy has a chance to become the second youngest person ever to win the Career Grand Slam at the age of 25. Tiger Woods did it when he was 24 in 2000.
If Tiger Woods decides to play, I think his first round score will be very important for his confidence for the rest of the tournament. If Bubba Watson wins, it would be his third Green jacket championship in the last four years. It seems like the Augusta National course is built to favor all of Bubba's strengths as a long hitting left hander.
Rory is still winless this year and still seems to be searching for his form from last year. However, if he does find it, look out.
Man I really like sports this time of year!
