St. Peter's to hold spring plant sale May 17 in Lewes

April 30, 2015

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will hold a public plant sale from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Sunday, May 17, in Lewes. Many talented gardeners in the congregation provide the plants for sale. Plants for sale include annuals, vegetables, fruit trees, herbs, perennials, shrubs, ornamentals and bulbs among the many donations. Proceeds from the plant sale will fund new garden projects as well as enhance existing displays for this year.

Past plant sales have funded the meditation garden, shade garden and spring bulb display. The garden boutique will offer books, garden ornaments, decorative pots, custom-made birdhouses, garden tools and other garden-themed material. Professional baker Maureen Sutton will provide her delicious pastries and coffee for the early birds.

One of the oldest churches in America, St. Peter’s church is on Second St. in downtown historic Lewes. The church is surrounded by churchyard gardens filling an entire city block. There are a meditation garden, a shady resting garden, a prayerful labyrinth and a host of flowering plants and trees scattered within an historic cemetery. All of this provides a beautiful, welcoming, year round resting spot for visitors and congregation members.
