A film about Buddhism in the West, "When the Iron Bird Flies" conveys to viewers how Buddhism and its philosophy in practice can make a great impact on Western culture and society. This film has been shown all over the world and in many film festival screenings including The California Film Festival, The Rubin Museum of Art, The Dairy Center for The Arts, The Byron Bay Film Festival and The Starz Denver Film Festival.
Khandro Sherab Dolma, a Tibetan vajrayana Buddhist practitioner since 1996, began teaching in August 2010. Every Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., the Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhist Beach Center of Delaware opens its doors to the public for meditation and Buddhist teachings. Many Buddhist monks from Tibet have coame to teach.
Many people have come to meditate at the center along with long-standing practitioners, and have been helpful in aiding those who have suffered from the earthquake. Each week since the earthquake happened, Dolma felt compelled to help by collecting the weekly dana offerings and digitally sending them through a Tibetan earthquake relief fund. Many of the monasteries in Nepal and their monks have helped those without shelter and food.
"We all need to do our part, collectively and individually, to help," Dolma said,. "This is just one of the ways we are able to raise funds. Everybody wins. People can come to view this screening and learn a wonderful thing, and help those in dire need simultaneously."
